The Tombe dei Glossatori (The Glossatori Tombs) are one of Bologna's most unique and memorable monuments. Named after the lawyers in Bologna who used to add 'glosses' and notes to their legal documents whilst studying, the Tombe dei Glossatori (The Glossatori Tombs) consist of little pyramidical roofs that are raised off the ground on slender columns.
The elaborate marble tombs are also covered in majolica tiles and dates from the end of the 13th century. Bologna's Tombe dei Glossatori (The Glossatori Tombs) are home to many hundreds of famous Bologna scholars.
